Music

At Birchgrove, we provide children with a wide range of musical experiences through a focus on singing, playing, composing and appraising.

Children sing a variety of songs including simple rounds/canons, traditional assembly songs and seasonal favourites to folk/pop and Welsh language songs. Playing skills focus on ukuleles, djembe drums and glockenspiels. In addition, children are given opportunities to explore and create on a range of percussion instruments. Composing tasks link with IT via the Google Music Lab and GarageBand. Regular songwriting sessions combine literacy and music skills to create original pieces for performance.

Performance opportunities are provided through our community links with the Llys Enfys Home in Llanishen, class assemblies and our regular concerts at Christmas and Spring Term. The musical opportunities for our children are extended through a range of clubs we provide during lunch time and after-school which include KS2 choir, Yr 5 music club and Yr 6 music club.

Our vision is to develop the children’s skills and support their wellbeing by providing an exciting, extensive range of musical lessons, activities and experiences.
